Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his dedication to justice, equality, and fairness for all. His vision continues to inspire us to work together for a better future.
In 1968, Dr. King visited Memphis, Tennessee, to support the sanitation workers’ strike. On April 3, he delivered his powerful “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech to a crowd of supporters. Tragically, he was assassinated the following day.
The strike began on February 12, 1968, after the deaths of two sanitation workers, Echol Cole and Robert Walker, who were crushed by a malfunctioning truck. The workers were demanding better safety standards, fair wages, and union recognition.
Dr. King’s fight for dignity and justice remains as important today as ever.
